Dr Sophie Egyptien
Diplômée de l'Université de Liège en 2016, le Dr Sophie Egyptien s'est rapidement orientée vers la reproduction animale, une discipline qu'elle aborde comme un domaine transversal combinant pratique clinique et techniques de laboratoire.
Elle a mené simultanément un doctorat et une résidence européenne en reproduction animale à l'Université de Liège, obtenant son diplôme de spécialiste européen en décembre 2021. Cette formation lui permet aujourd'hui de prendre en charge l'ensemble des aspects de la reproduction chez les petits animaux : suivi de chaleurs, inséminations, pathologies utérines, prostatiques et mammaires, ainsi que la stérilisation raisonnée.
Sa thèse de doctorat, soutenue en août 2025, porte sur un sujet original : la cryopréservation de la semence de faux-bourdon, le mâle de l'abeille. Pour mener à bien ce projet, elle s'est formée en apiculture pendant deux ans et a mis en place une ruche expérimentale. Ses travaux ont notamment permis d'obtenir pour la première fois des descendantes femelles à partir de semence congelée sans antibiotique, une avancée qui a été reprise par de nombreux médias scientifiques internationaux.
Elle maîtrise des techniques de laboratoire avancées comme l'épifluorescence et la cytométrie en flux pour évaluer la qualité spermatique, compétences qu'elle applique également dans sa pratique clinique quotidienne.
Parallèlement à ses activités de recherche, le Dr Egyptien a développé une solide expérience en clinique de reproduction des petits animaux, principalement chez le chien, tout en encadrant régulièrement des étudiants.
Depuis octobre 2025, elle participe à la création du Centre Hospitalier de l'École Vétérinaire UniLaSalle où elle combine clinique, enseignement et recherche. Elle poursuit notamment ses travaux sur la reproduction de l'abeille, un domaine qui allie reproduction, biodiversité et santé animale.
